Case studies: sample Melbourne interior projects

Each project is told the same way: what the client asked for, how the plan changed, which materials we chose and how the rooms turned out.

Sample projects

These case studies are written for this demo website to show how a real studio would present its work. The homes are typical of each suburb, the clients are fictional and named by first name only, and the budgets are sample ranges.

The case studies

Floor plan of a long, narrow single-fronted terrace in Fitzroy with a skylit kitchen and dining room at the rear

Fitzroy · Victorian terrace · Living and kitchen

A narrow Fitzroy terrace, made to feel wide

Anna and Luca's single-fronted terrace was 5.2 metres wide and felt like a corridor from the front door to the back fence. A long skylight, one run of joinery and a single floor finish turned the back half into one calm room.

Floor plan of a two-bedroom 1930s flat in Elwood with the kitchen opened to the dining room through an arch

Elwood · 1930s flat · Kitchen, bathroom and bedrooms

An Elwood art deco flat with room to cook

Margot cooks for friends every weekend in a galley kitchen barely wider than a hallway. We opened it to the dining room through an arch that echoes the building's 1930s details, then carried the same care into the bathroom and bedrooms.

Why every case study shows the plan

Photographs show how a room looks. Plans show why it works: where the light comes from, how people move and what had to change to get there. On each case study you can select the numbered points on the plan to see the material, finish and type of supplier behind each decision.

On a real studio website, this page would also hold photographs of finished projects, published with each client's permission.

Your home could be the next case study.
